The Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota County would like to announce a training by the Sanford Education Center. This is an excellent training on their social emotional program called Sanford Harmony. Many Sarasota teachers have attended and reported that peer relationships in their classrooms are stronger and they love the books and lesson plans supplied free from the program.
Sanford Harmony is a research-based, highly effective teaching strategy that strengthens classroom communities by helping each child understand and appreciate diversity in others.
By breaking down barriers, Sanford Harmony enables students to connect and collaborate at much deeper levels. Early adopters have indicated that children feel more comfortable and connected in their classrooms, leading to more harmonious interactions and improved academic achievement.
This training and the materials received are complementary to other character development curriculum you are currently using and is intended to be a voluntary opportunity to receive free training, materials and ongoing support.
Sanford Harmony is underwritten by T. Denny Sanford through the Sanford Education Center and National University, and is currently used in thousands of classrooms across the U.S. The program:
- Is designed for students in pre-k through sixth grade
- Improves student cooperation, collaboration, and problem solving
- Helps to reduce teasing, bullying, and aggression
- Establishes trust and encourages connection and empathy
- Promotes harmonious peer-to-peer relationships
- Includes materials for parent communications
Along with training, each classroom will receive a teacher toolkit of materials. Teachers are provided with the necessary items for successfully integrating Harmony into the classroom, which includes:
- Guide to everyday practices
- Teacher binder with grade-specific lessons
- Storybooks per grade that focus on core themes
- Games for upper elementary levels
- Online instructional videos for each grade level
- Set of Quick Connection cards—Quick Community Builders, Quick Conversations, and Quick Collaborations
**Please note: anyone registered for the course who receives a toolkit and does not attend will be required to return the materials.
This free program will be offered to teachers who work with children 3-5 years of age and their directors. The 3-hour training is scheduled for Saturday, March 30th at The Landings, room 221 from 9am-12pm. Each program who attends is required to sign a Memorandum of Understanding that is attached to this email. This states that Sanford Harmony will provide free training, materials and assistance, and the program will incorporate the materials into their curriculum, provide feedback, and may be asked to have Sanford Harmony or Early Learning Coalition reps come and observe.
We encourage all programs to visit www.sanfordharmony.org to view the materials and research the program further.
Please respond to this email by Friday March 1st with the names of the teachers that are interested in attending the training along with a completed MOU for your program. Only one MOU per program is required. Materials take approximately 4 weeks to arrive at your program.
